      ...I take that as a great compliment.  I've only written a small handful of silly diaries on here, and I appreciate that you got something out of this somewhat more serious one.

      I wrote it very quickly at about 3 AM in the East and didn't think anyone would read it.  

      Like I mentioned yesterday when I wrote it, sometimes something you know intellectually just clicks in a more immediate and visceral way.  Watching these doctors and nurses try their very best for a young (10 year old?) Iraqi girl who wasn't going to make it, and then the nurse shedding a quick tear before most likely moving on to another patient really made me feel awe for people who can do that job.

      I couldn't do that job.  Thankfully, there are many people who's names I'll never know who do it every day--they're doing it over there right now--and I hope they understand their hard, heartbreaking, and necessary work is appreciated.
