do they really believe she has the best chance with all the negatives that she comes with in this race to beat the Republican and help down ballot races in 2008?

I think it's possable that she would be the best president, but it is almost a certainty  that she will hurt downballot races in many parts of the counrty and is the least likely to win a general because so many people will never vote for her, in a must win cycle can we take a chance on her?

    •  No we can't (0+ / 0-)

The risk and stakes are much too great for us to fool around with politics by inherited aristocracy or title conferred by family name.

And one I'll answer (very) briefly before heading off to bed.

I, perversely, think that Hillary's negatives can be a positive force in 2008.  The Republican appartus has systematically demonized Hillary for the past 15 years, and a lot of the electorate have bought it.

      But they haven't seen her.

And that fact is crucial.  I think Hillary is a passionate, knowledgeable candidate who will make a great President.  I believe that when enough Americans see her speak, she her debate, see her as an actual 3 dimensional human being instead of the Right Wing Media Machine's cariacture, that Americans will actually like her.  And the Clinton campaign will be smart enough to take this feeling of goodwill towards Hillary and bludgeon it over Republicans' head: "See the lies the GOP has been spreading about this great woman?  They've also been systematically lying about fiscal policy, foreign policy, moral issues, etc.  This is what they do.  They drive you against each other.  This is what Hillary is. You decide what you want."  I reread the preface to Paul Krugman's "The Great Unraveling", about the Great Revulsion towards GOP media dogma that needs to take place before any meaningful change will occur, and I think a Hillary candidacy will only hasten that Great Revulsion.

I think the results, from the top to the bottom of the ballot, will speak for themselves.  Then again, I'm a Hillary supporter, and this is probably the subject of a new diary, but I hope I answered your question.

      •  Interesting Reasoning (0+ / 0-)

I have to hand it to you, your "perverse" reasoning is interesting. And I hope you are right.

But I think it's too much of a risk that such perverse reasoning (That her high negatives are actually good) will work when we can't afford it not working.

It may just be simpler to do the obvious... which is choose a candidate that doesn't have these terrible negatives and just win this time like we are supposed to win.

Didn't have "Terrible Negatives" and the Republicans still trashed and smeared and ridiculed him.  They will do it to whoever we nominate.  Republicans have been terrible leaders for our nation for the last 13 years, and most Americans know it.  All they have left is to slime our candidates.  It's going to happen no matter who we nominate.  It is, however, a debatable point about whether prior negatives are relevant to how successful the only slimy move in the GOP's playbook will be.

That said, my above comment isn't "why" I support Hillary--it was to answer nevadadem's question about Hillary's affect on downballot races, which is a legitimate one.  I don't decide who I'm going to support for president based on that consideration, but it's a fair point to ponder.

I don't agree with you at all, some of my feelings about Clinton's unelectability come from anecdotal eveidence, I know alot of non-political white males that hate Hillary would defineltly vote against her but some are considering Obama, these people also think the president is an asshole so we should get some of these voters, but you make a plausable case based on reason and thats why I recommended your comment.
