How many men (relative to women) would be constantly pulled back into a violently abusive relationship?

I can assure you the situation in the gay male community is nothing to smile at, either.  I watched one of my former friends constantly return to a guy who left him with a busted lip over and over.

It's just that relationships are messy, emotional things, and abuse - whether physical or emotional or both - complicates that to no end.  The tragic thing is that many victims of abuse know full well, when looking at other relationships, what's wrong with them, but can't find the strength to do the same in their own relationships.  I agree with you that one of the ways to help stop this is by encouraging a culture of zero tolerance, from the very first sign of abuse.
