    You just want a nice cover of vegetable matter that isn't loaded with seeds.  Straw is ideal because the seed heads have all been cut off.

    You could use raked leaves for part of the cover, covering them with thinner flakes of straw bales to keep them from blowing away.

    Alfalfa has seeds, as does most hay.  You can use marsh hay, I've been told--I think that is what Ruth Stout used.

    Universal Health Care - it's coming, but not soon enough!
