  •  media people live in a bubble (4+ / 0-)

I also watched MTP, eager to see what they would say about the e-mails, Gonzales's op-ed peice etc. and was startled to realize the hour was over-- and that was it.  I couldn't believe it when Russert uttered "...this was a lot more important."  He'll wish he could take back that sentence, no doubt.

In fairness to Russert and panel, their conversation was about much more than Imus.  They really were starting the larger dialogue about racism, rap music, the harmful coarsening of our culture and what could or should be done about it.  It was a good conversation but perhaps one that could be held at some length in the vacant morning time slot that MSNBC needs to fill, rather than monopolizing the entire panel discussion on MTP.

Don't focus on the stupid, jokey final line.

Do what Unique Material did in his/her post above. Focus on the complete omission of other news. THAT is the problem. Not the stupid game of "gotchya" over a line that, at the very least, can be defended as saying it was an attempt at humor. The fact that the entire roundtable was about Imus is not defensible.

but they (collectively) had those conversations 20 years ago when shock jock, daytime talk shows, and cultural coarsening accelerated.

Nothing happened then - should we believe their talking about it  would change anything now? I don't think so. If they themselves wanted it to change it would have done so by now; they didn't so it hasn't.

I'm the person your mother warned you about.
