Soldiers are dying and Iraq continues to disintegrate.  And we keep throwing our resources into the abyss. Obama needs to do his job as a senator now and get behind Reid-Feingold.  Leadership is getting people to follow you.  He needs to convince his colleagues to do the right thing.

Speeches aren't enough - action is needed now, not at some point.

    •  exactly what i mean (0+ / 0-)

Obama must single-handedly end the war now!  "Obama needs to do his job as a Senator" - like put forward a specific proposal to end the Iraq war?  Jesus people, no matter how urgent you feel about Iraq, none of the Dem nominees are going to put a stop to it during their campaign.  its just not in the cards.  if you want to criticize a position of Obama's, you can't assume he's going to vote one way or another and criticize him based on your assumption!  this is stuff we call out the wingnuts for, we shouldn't be doing it ourselves here.

all three of the major contenders will end the war once they're in office, with minor variations as to how.  i agree with Krugman that Dems have nothing to lose in supporting their base, but i think the narrative that's taken hold here of Obama abandoning the base is just fabricated bullshit and, again, the result of a weird feeling of entitlement.  Obama needs to kiss everyone's ass directly, at every moment, or he's a sellout.

all of this purity test bullshit is making Dkos an increasingly unreliable place for info and debate.

      •  He is running as a Leader (0+ / 0-)

        to be president.

His own plan is fine.  But there is a plan put out by the cautious Harry Reid - the majority leader - which is more bold than Obama's.  Obama can show leadership by convincing his fellow senators to support R-F now, not calculate how he can get credit for his plan.  Why isn't he supporting Reid and Feingold.  Feingold dropped out of the race to focus on getting us out of Iraq.  We are not stupid.  We will give Obama credit.  He is hesitating because of his backers.  Lieberman still has influence in the back rooms.

Talking about purity tests is what Obama supporters have done with Edwards IWR vote.  It is a pointless argument both ways.
