Abu G has shown great diligence and skill in following his instructions from his superiors.

      •  In fact, Gonzales put on a masterful performance. (20+ / 0-)

Produced, directed and stage-managed by the WH, Gonzales should win an Oscar (or an Anti-Oscar)for his consistent show of incredible incompetence and lack of memory.  Really.  The guy should be on the stage.  I wish he were.  That would get him out of the AG office.  But truly, it was a brilliant performance.  What did we learn yesterday?  Virtually nothing.  What is the Rethuglican meme now:  incompetence, not corruption.

        •  yes this is right, whether in seriousness (2+ / 0-)

Absolutely. I was actually surprised and disappointed that he maintained his composure vs falling apart, nerves of steel, to follow through on that assignment, AND have the audacity to scold Schumer for failing to meet HIS "burden of proof".

Careful observers will note all the performance elements that have been built into those murder boards. They probably have interactive CD ROMS that will randomize potential questions, and prompt them for the most powerful answer-approach for anything thrown at them.

FIRST: The hand turned inward, fingertips clutching the heart. This is used by Bush extensively whenever someone is questioning his integrity or why he would put someone in harm's way. This is the sympathy gatherer --- You have to look hurt while employing this tactic:

"I would never do such a thing. That is not in my nature. I have examined my heart and I can tell you for certain, I would never do something that would hurt [...........]"

SECOND:  A neuro-linguistic programming technique, had to have come from Karen Hughes so long ago; it was first employed by Ari Fleisher and has been used by every Press Secy since, as well as extensively by Bush and Cheney:

"I think the American people need to know ....."  and ... "The American people understand that this is the path we must take... "the American people can see through this as partisan politics"

          etc

          THIRD:

          The Quiet Cheney.

This is a performance technique where you invoke a scholarly tone, devoid of emotion, quietly delivered assertively without fear of consequence. You simply state the way people need to see it. It's so clear that it's obvious.

There are other performance gems, but that's the Holy Trinity of BushCo Theatre.

Second tier includes the Classic Condi:

Senator I think it's important we take a step back and look at this in the larger context... (begin filibuster).... or.. "But Senator it's important that you understand..." ...

Thankfully, our side was finally prepared for this one... It seems they must have huddled about this from the outset as part of their own pre-game strategy. Time and again when the "if I could add some context Senator" subroutine reared its derailer-head, the Democratic Senators swiped it off the table. God bless her even Dianne Feinstein managed to catch on:

"So the answer is no. Let's move on because my time is limited..."

But yes, whatever Gonzo's deal was and is, they sure prepped the shit out of him. Notice I failed to even include the "I can't recall" because that's become as standardized as a Comedy Store comedian launching into the inevitable "When I lived in New York" routine.

          •  ooops! I forgot the 4th one -- now I need a new (0+ / 0-)

            title for the quartet, damnit!

            FOURTH:  DE-moral-LIES-ation

"Be careful when you criticize the Department of Justice, Senator, because when you do, you demoralize the (troops) hard working men and women who give service to our country" ... so "Target me if you like (martyr-voice), but don't criticize the members of the Department of Justice"

with a sprinkle of Ari Fleisher's

            "Be careful what you say"

admonition. (intimidation; or, as Colbert would say "putting them on notice")
