  •  Textiles and Toys - Foundation of Commerce (0+ / 0-)

So what, toys and textiles cost more.  Are we talking about needs or desires here?
American consumerism is a strange beast, we're bombarded with media influence designed to muddy the line between needs and desires.  There certainly is no real need for kids rooms and adult garages full of toys.  We need textiles for clothing but our desires fill 2 closets and an attic full of clothing.  Our desire is for an SUV with 6 CD changer, DVD, all the bells and whistles but our needs call for a bare bones Honda accord.

Guys like Jack Welch shuttered TV factories, they own congress, why not call for import tariffs?  Why not publicize the need to close the doors in every electronics and textile plant in this country due to congress's reluctance to impose tariffs.  I'm sure tens of thousands of US employees wouldn't mind paying a little more for TVs and socks vs. losing everything in a layoff.
