We need to quit worrying about how to stop it or slow it.  We will not be able to get all of the world governments on board to stop it.

Instead, we must jump ahead to preparing for it.

At some point the pessimists become realists.  I think we've reached that point.

It isn't as if the impacts are fixed ... we still need to work to reduce emissions to lessen just how bad it will be 20-50-100 years from now ...

      •  I think you both make a good point. (0+ / 0-)

Anything we can do to lessen the impact would be helpful, of course, but the impact is going to be severe and have dramatic consequences.  Not stopping the tipping point might mean that we can't lessen the consequences no matter how much we prepare. We may not have a 100-year future if fossil fuels aren't completely abandoned.
But, let's say some humans do have a future.  Can we prepare for it?  Wouldn't hurt to try but that, too, is strongly doubtful.  For one thing, flooding and internal wars (over food, clean water, medicine for diseases etc.) will likely destroy known countries. Chaos will destroy Governments and the little land that's left will be bordered off. Ways of creating nutritous foods will have to be found since so little land will be available for crops.  Droughts, flooding, and pestulance will aggrevate that problem, as well.  Health problems like Asthma, Parkinsons, Cancers, TB and many others will become pandemic.  This creates an even greater need for hospitals and Dr's, which creates even more fighting for strained resources, which further destroys rule of law.  Iraq's situation, now, will be enviable.
I don't see how we can prepare for such destruction.  Nor, why we'd want to.  I'm 48 and gratefull that I wont be here for the worst of our demise.
