With Teeth was the first NIN album I liked (and bought). I'm not thrilled with Year Zero. It would be great without the distorted/"industrial" noise; it sounds gratingly digital, for lack of a better word.

Hopefully Reznor will release the whole album in GarageBand format, and people can remix at will.

Rereading my comment...I didn't mean completely without the "noise" stuff. On most tracks, it works very well, or almost. It just needs to be toned down a tiny bit so I can play it loud without cringing ;-)

An indictment of our current path.  It's incredibly transparent, and Reznor has said as much.  With Teeth hints at these themes in some songs such as "The Hand that Feeds" and "Right Where You Belong."  This album is beating you over the head with it.

"Capital G" is an incredible lampooning of the entire Bush cult mindset.

"...and he signs his name with a capital G." Has there ever been a more succinct description of the Bushie mindset?

That said, I think I sense an on-the-quiet tribute to Cash in the almost gospel chorus of "Zero Sum":

        Shame on us
        doomed from the start
May God have mercy on our dirty little hearts...

Incredible album. I'm already faunching for the second half.

Oh yeah, and I'm another of many here who grew up loving Johnny Cash thanks to my parents. I finally got Live at San Quentin on CD a couple of years ago.
