    at least here in Canada.  Yes, we tried to integrate the indians, and bring them into mainstream society... as untouchables.  As the lowest of the low on the social ladder, as domestic help and manual laborers.  Of course they preferred to live their 'traditional' lives even if it was on a reservation, dependent on Federal money.
