My problem with Israel as a democracy is that it conflicts with Israel as the "Jewish state". Now, if Israel wishes to define herself as officially Israel the Jewish State, fine. But she can't also be a democracy when a certain class is preferred over another. Officially.

Were the U.S. to become the United States of America, the Christian State or United States of America, the White Christian State, if Congress proposed such thing and it stood a chance of passing, then it's time for me, an African American woman, to get the hell out.

The gov't could promise nothing's going to change. The laws won't change, that I'll have equal protection, equal rights.

We both know that this will not be true in the end. And we both know that the U.S. will cease to be a democracy.

There is no promise for equality when one class is preferred by the State over others.

Btw, this has nothing to do with the treatment of Arabs under Israel versus the treatment of Arabs under other Arab nations. It is irrelevant.

saying you're a democracy is one thing, being a true democracy is quite another. just because wikipedia lists a country as a democracy or republic doesn't reflect on the implementation of the true principles. In fact, a friend of mine once mentioned that the worst dictatorships, facist states and such generally are 'Republic of....'.

right on how you tore the veil off the lack of democratic representation in Israel. If you are a Jew, and not one of the lesser class Jews such as from Russia, Ethiopia or many other origins, well then it's all democratic for you. For the Palestinians subjected there, it certainly is not a democracy.

this over and about we call Israel a work in progress

of course none of these problems would exist if Israel had been effective "ethnic cleansers" and had actually completed the job back then. You wouldn't have any argument related to this topic at all.

but according to u neighboring treatment of Palestinians is irrelevant. Except that they're kept in ghettos with the explicit intent to keep them riled up against Israel by keeping them impoverished. That's racism and political opportunism by said countries. Now whether or not it's "relevant" why aren't you on those countries to grant Palestinians equal rights. They've been political refugees for a long time yet no movement has ever existed to grant them equal rights in their host countries. Again, that's racism against Palestinians by other Arabs. Just think how much these refugees could have assisted in creating a Palestinian state if they had been productive members of the host countries. They'd be richer and better educated to boot and could have been of great assisstance to their Palestinian brethren.
If you really care about PalestiniNS YOU'D BE BANGING THAT DRUM ONCE IN AWHILE TOO, BIT i NEVER SEE IT. wHY NOT?

The question was whether Israel can be a democracy as Israel the Jewish State. Everything else IS irrelevant wrt this question because we're only talking about whether Israel can be a democracy as Israel the Jewish State.

It's called staying on point. Try it sometime.
