I don't think he could fake that kind of adoration.  In most cases though, I think it's about the money, the access and the power.

    •  I'm inclined to agree with you (6+ / 0-)

but I also think that the "clueless dimwit" explanation applies to more than a few of them. It's hard for me to tell who's who since it's always been hard for me to accept just how monumentally stupid so many people can be in certain situations.

But I think it's a safe bet that folks like Andrea Mitchell, Tucker Carlson and Bill O' pretty much fall into this category (among others, of course).

Let's not also forget two other explanations, which is the fear of retribution from the right (and which I suppose can be rolled into the opportunism one), and needing to comply with management's stated and implied preferred narratives.

Clearly, they have multiple avenues for manipulating the media and journalists, and our side is still at a distinct disadvantage on this front, which for now we can really only counter by calling them out and standing up to them when and where we can, and by Dems continuing to exceed expectations and neutralize at least some of the criticism. Until we find a way to make the media do its job, we will always be graded on a curve--one which invariably grades us well below what we deserve, and the GOP way above.

After all, they are the "manly" party, and we're just the "mommie" party. (Except that daddy's an abusive sociopath and mommie is wonderwoman.)
