like Chuck Hagel then he might very well find himself being challenged in '08 by the likes of Tom Hagel -Chuck's liberal brother who happen to be a 1)law professor in Ohio and 2)has a combat record no less distinguished than tha of his older brother whith whom he served in Vietnam.

    •  Isn't Tim Ryan thinking of running (0+ / 0-)

against Voinovich?  I got that impression from the comments in his diary the other day.

Yes, it's obvious Tim Ryan is positioning himself to run in 2010, but I strongly suspect Voinie will be retiring.  He always looks beaten up and exhausted; I think the Bush years have not been kind to what I would call not his moderate Republicanism but his traditional Republicanism. He tried to hold the line against Bush's tax cuts for the wealthy because of his discal conservatism. He tried to hold the line against Bolton and he got swift-boated by the right-wing group Move America Forward. I think he's tired. The problem for the GOP is who will they run if he retires? I don't know. I'd like to see Ken Blackwell go for it. Heh heh.
