Donald in Mathmagic Land is an awesome educational movie, and it has everything you have both mentioned, from Donald Duck playing pool while showing the principals of geometry to the trees with the square roots.  This movie should be required viewring for every kid.

Mr. Smith Goes to Washington is also a great movie for teaching people how national politics is SUPPOSED to work versus how it very often DOES work.

I already loved math when I saw it, but it was very cool. It's a film I remember seeing in school.

Once upon a time, I was a math major in college. But going above calculus threw me for a loop; I remember trying to learn linear algebra or some such, and thinking that I'd slept through a year somewhere because there seemed to be no logical connection to anything I'd done before. I guess it was the same thing that happens to so many wannabe pre-meds when they stumble upon organic chemistry.

I eventually ended up with my degree in American studies, and today I write for a living. Writing was another love of mine in school. But I still love fidgeting with digits, though. Just don't ask me about vector spaces!

      math!

I agree, StevenJoseph, It should be required because it is fun and i didn't realize it until i wrote it, but thinking mathematically is different than just "doing" it.

the one huge component missing in education is play and fun: you need to capture interest, and dittos and tests and stress just don't cut it.

Mr. Smith Goes to Washington is one among many movies kids could benefit from... movies that tap their sense of inspiration and the power they have to define their own lives rather than being defined by life.

over and out... pf8 (got that abbreviation from VDL... everything turns into an acronym here!!!!) or maybe language is getting as fast-paced as our lives???
