    denomination that has not been comfortable with the "accept Jesus, you're saved" view of faith and salvation.  The concept of "good works" with emphasis on the poor was a major part of what I was taught.

      by the nuns--that you had to DO something, that your life was a better sermon than any preacher or priest could give.

      The last time we mixed religion and politics people got burned at the stake.

        Catholicism.  In that way Methodism diverges a bit from other mainline Protestants.  Certainly the more Calvinist ones.

          many peopel here think of the Pope as speaking for all Catholcis, very doctrinaire and authoritarian--but that wasn't the Catholciism I knew growing up.  I left for many reasons, but I thinkthe nuns were also right about a lot of thigns.
