  •  Freecycle (0+ / 0-)

Hey Allison, I floated that idea and then I had another one too (smell the wood burning?).

In addition to freecycle, how about contacting sporting goods or women's clothing companies, like Champion (I've already done that and forwarded the info to Norman), and see if they will donate some new stuff too. If enough people request items for this shelter, it will get the point across. For a company like Champion, a few dozen sweat suits means nothing, but it means a tremendous amount to the shelter. Stuff like that.

Maybe we could get a list going?

    •  Wow, great idea re the companies (0+ / 0-)

I hope you stay in the loop with Norman.

My thought was that social activists in Minneapolis could collect donations for the shelter via Freecycle, possibly ferry them to UMM Morris, then possibly rent a truck from there to get them to SD. Minneapolis is the largest city nearby that I know of that's large enough to have the "good" stuff in their Freecycle network.

Some small places, you don't really see great donations to Freecycle. Just some thoughts.

Be good to each other. It matters.

That would really be amazing. If I weren't in New York I'd be right in there too. It's true, a bunch of people would have to collect stuff little by little. There seems to be a lot of stuff here on Long Island, but people do put dibs on it pretty fast. However, I also had some luck putting out requests on the list too for another project.

I hope we can get the discussion group together pretty soon. This is a great project and some great ideas are being put forth....
