and the smoking gun is in storage somewhere from the nightly news or daily blogs for any given day for the last six years.

Abuse of power intrinsically is a violation of the oath of office, and an assault of the Constitution one is sworn to defend. It is a betrayal of the people. Therefore Abuse of power not only equals "high crime," it is precisely identical with it.

But smoking gun--hell we've got 300 million eye-witnesses and documentation to the moon.

Little known Constitutional fact: the phrase "executive privilege," does not exist anywhere in the Constitution! Justice Scalia...?

Also would include Jefferson's Real Estate Venture.  Not many people would call that impeachable, in and of itself.

Heck, People LOVE when their President steps out of bounds.  Historical examples are plentiful.

Look at the Polls, there are about 28% Kool-Aid Drinkers, seemingly, nothing GWB can do will sway these folks.

But you have, what 57% (see above) against impeachment, that leaves about 30% unaccounted for???  What facts that you speak of have this 30% missed?!

I am sorry, the smoking gun means something for which even this 30% cannot forgive.

Not that it is non-existent.  However, IMHO, it must be found first.

      •  It's already there. (0+ / 0-)

The press hasn't been playing "push it" or "connect it" with any of it yet. They've been "report it and then let it die next day." Most people just don't follow news, so the extent of his criminality is not known to them. At the same time there's the drip-drip-drip from the "report it and then let it die" news. That's why 2/3rds also say they don't trust and they don't believe Bush.

If the Dems pushed Impeachment it would automatically become the 24/7 news item, and the dots would start getting connected on a consistent basis for the average news-skimmer.

Remember that there's 40% favoring impeachment without benefit of any major media outlet letting the idea hang out there. Last time was anything even close to that was an MSNBC online poll from a couple of years ago. They let that die without comment.

        •  But the Blogs (0+ / 0-)

HAVE been playing "push it" or "connect it".

Are you saying dKos has been negligent?  There are abundant others.

          How about THIS Diary?

If a construct can be made to provide a clear and shocking "smoking gun" it simply has not been done YET.  Such a "connection of dots" would gain a life of its own and could not be ignored by either the MSM or the House & Senate.

IMHO, this and other diaries which make a valiant effort with respect to revealing a "smoking gun" end up short of their objective.

Also, IMHO, to start the Impeachment Process in the HOPES (no matter how well founded) of finding that "smoking gun" would smack of partisanship (at least until everyone realizes that smell is burnt powder).

Why go through the antagonizing process in the interval?  Why not let Waxman, Conyers, etc. investigate, let the Blogs see how the pieces fit, and let the MSM follow.  Or any combination of the same?

The TRUTH will come out.  Somebody very smart once put low odds to "fooling all the people all the time."

It's not my job to let other people do my job. It is my job to direct my representative as to my will. The "practical" answer is that the assault on the nation is immediate and ongoing, and everyday that goes by is another day of entrenchment, another day to erase tracks, another large number of crimes committed against, well, everyone and every bit of America they can get to.

It's a matter of urgency, we simply don't have the luxury of waiting another 616 days while they work their plans. Just think what they've done to America in just the last 90 days.

To be honest, I don't see how anyone could deny
            a. rampant abuse of power by Bush/Cheney
            b. extensive public documentation of same
            c. that these abuses can fairly and justly be deemed "high crimes"
            d. a certainty that such abuse will go unabated unless removal occurs
            e. media avoidance/suppression of the very notion of impeachment

As a citizen I can't depend, as a matter of principle, on media or the Congress to do what's necessary. That's why, here, we are working toward, I think, honing the arguments that will soon be needed, since, like you, I believe the Truth will out.

In which event we'll have, by then, assembled the whole massive evidence of abuse of power, and honed and pre-rebutted all possible arguments on the matter. This is very productive.

          •  Oh, and on the blogs versus big media (0+ / 0-)

DKos gets 500,000 hits a day. American Idol gets 30,000,000 viewers a week. How many of 300,000,000 are watching the tube four hours or more every day. I think it's near 200,000,000. Or was it six hours?

So there's simply no comparison between a self-directed audience hitting a blog for a half-hour a day, and the full-spectrum widespread reach of mass media. That's why even though millions had learned that the Iraq war rationales were false, the vast majority of the country believed them.
