    The US 'should not be in the business of nation building', etc... I think Bush has proven that American voters are so fucking stupid it doesn't really matter what you say to get elected - they won't hold you to it.
    I'd say it would be good politics to do exactly what nyceve suggests, and worry about saying something totally different if called for in 2012.
    The American public won't remember shit, and won't care even if they do. They don't think about the long term anyway.

      That was the great John Maynard Keynes, who's name became an adjective in Economics.

      He was pointing out the absurdity of "the long run" often used in Economic thought. As in "in the long run the labor market will reach equilibrium at a higher overall living standard", which could mean "in 100 years", which is an utterly worthless concept to all people in the labor pool alive for the next three generations.
