While I was reading about the news backout of Iraqi violence this AM, CNN was reporting on a cruise ship that ran aground in Alaska.  CNN didn't even discuss the environmental impact of the crash.  Sensationalism with no depth 24/7. Welcome to 2007 America.

wasn't much larger than a ferry boat. I doubt there was much environmental impact at all. A boat running aground doesn't mean an oil spill.

That 'cruise ship' was 360 ft, ~200 passengers, the kind of boat that runs on the Mississippi. For comparison, the Cape May-Lewes ferry is 320 ft, 1000 passengers, 100 cars.

Most major cruise lines run ships in the 600-1000 ft range, with 700-3000 passengers.

      •  But why wasn't THAT (0+ / 0-)

angle explored, even if the environmental impact was minimal?  Also, CNN didn't mention the size of the boat; the photo they showed, was of a giant cruise ship.  My point, of course, is that very serious issues, important to America, are constantly displaced by junk news.
