  •  Gore points out ho 9-11 could have been prevented (17+ / 0-)

going through all the information that various intelligence agencies had, and how the refusal of people like Ashcroft - and of course Bush - meant that any possibility of using the information that was available was lost. Gore uses an analysis from the Merkle Foundation and lays it out in detail on pp. 149 and ff.  That is, you will see a detailed list of the information that was in the system.

    •  Too bad we didn't have NSA back then. (5+ / 0-)

We did? What was their advice? Build a missle shield? Weren't there any warning directives? No just historical narratives. Hysterical.

    •  And he was quoting the same report (6+ / 0-)

back in 2003 and noone seemed to notice it.

But this is the big story regarding 9/11. Not all those stupid conspiracy theories. The Midhar-Hazmi investigation has been ignored by the press, even while they talk a lot about the Phoenix memo (which did not identify any of the actual hijackers) and the Moussaoui investigation (which did not indentify any of the actual hijackers).

Midhar and Hazmi were hijackers. The FBI were investigating them before 9/11. Their names were on the TIPOFF. Using phone and address info one could have identified their associates easily. (No illegal NSA wiretapping is necessary.)
If then the names had been put on the no-fly list there wouldn't have been 9/11. That's is not a coulda, shoulda. It WOULD have prevented the attacks because the hijackers wouldn't have been allowed to board the airplanes.
But there was never a meeting where the head of the FBI and the head of the FAA and the president would have been at the same table. Because Bush never called for such a meeting despite all the warnings he received from the CIA and the NSA.

Read what the FBI did with Midhar and Hazmi prior to 9/11:

And this is no big deal? Then what is?
Why isn't this OIG report a well know document?
Most Americans do not even know that there was such an internal investigation let alone what it uncovered. It's much more detailed than the 9/11 Com. report or the Joint Inquiry report.

Oh well. Our media is sleeping at the wheel again.

      •  I think they purposely ignored these data (3+ / 0-)

It seems to me that there is a widespread pattern of ignoring, overlooking, dismissing, suppressing, and denying information that could have led to preventing the 9/11 attack.  This is why I think TLIHOP.  I don't believe it is simple incompetence.

May all beings be free from fear.
