  •  The problem stated in the book (12+ / 0-)

is already becoming a problem FOR the book.

It is being pushed by the media as an anti-Bush diatribe, or a campaign book.  The screen scroll is always either "Will he run" or a variation on "Slams Bush".

The pundits insist on quoting the worst of what he has to say about Bush (there's an index in the back so conceivably you don't even have to actually read it to find the quotes), and ignore the rest of what he says.

Because of the very problem stated in the book - focus on the salacious over fact, emphasis on what's "sexy" over anything that asks us to think, the media's inability to look at itself, disdain for intellectual ideas, and fear - the book is being distorted and mishandled by the pundits.

If you don't actually read the book, and you're an average citizen getting your news from teevee, you won't have any idea what it says beyond "Bush sux".

It becomes up to us, people who WILL read it, to be the movement that brings the change.

    Starting with drafting this guy.

    •  inevetable and kind of humorous isn't it? (2+ / 0-)

let's just say that if you get your info from TV you have absolutely no idea what is really going on. You'd be better off and take everything they say and believe the direct opposite--it is that bad.

    •  Two BIG problems from what I heard (3+ / 0-)

Gore "slams" the media with a "where were you?" analysis.

AND he slams the gullible American public (in a way that doesn't bother ME, but then I was "agin" the Iraq invasion to start with) but IT WILL bother the uninformed.

It is always easy to see the faults of others and very difficult to see one's own faults.

Gore asks the question, What is wrong with our thinking that allowed the American people to be so duped?

I only watched Book TV and WILL read the book.

What is WRONG is like everything else in life - super complicated and not a quick fix.  The "other side" offers the quick fix hourly.

Repeating, The "other side" offers the quick fix hourly.    It is so much better than trodding down an analytical, time-consuming road, just like taking a diet pill or getting surgery is so much easier that true behavior modification.  We are ALL guilty of this in some form.

A LEADER OUT of the quagmire is desparately needed.  Definition of a leader:  a person people follow.

    •  In other words (0+ / 0-)

Michiko Kakutani did a better job with it than the TV pundits. I am not surprised but will bang head against wall all the same.
