    In this particular case, however, I don't think it makes much of a difference calling it a war.  Whatever it is, it's a mess, it's unpopular, and the American people want us to extricate ourselves from Iraq.

      Due to the fact that the use of the word "war" allows the Right Wing Talking-points Machine to get people to buy into the "winning" frame.  The last "real" war in which the US was involved, WWII, there was a real sense of what could happen if the US wasn't on the "winning" side of the conflict.  Those kinds of fearful images are still in the background of the American Psyche, where the American sheeple will allow themselves to accept whatever their government is telling them is necessary in order to prevent being on the "losing" side.

      As is mentioned elsewhere in this diary, you can't win or lose an Occupation.
