  •  Evil Mr. Nader -- help, he's Darth Vader! (none)
First, I have only heard of this story here.  Given there are no citations, nor sources, nor context, it's pretty hard for me to get whipped up about.   It reads a lot more like partisan political gossip than journalism.

I suspect there's some truth in it.  But I think it matters far less than the anti-democratic motivation for "gotcha" tidbits like this.  This is one in thousands of attempts to paint our most vigorous and decent citizens -- on the progressive side, no less -- as some sort of two-bit cheat.  He has been made a scapegoat to rally the Democratic side around.  It's devisive, petty, and sad.

This tidbit is also lame.  Call me crazy, but I don't see Evil Mr. Nader sitting down and asking if there is anything smaller than 9-pt. so he can put on a cloak of invisibility and sneak -- DAMN HIM -- onto a ballot.

This "issue" only shows how much creative thought goes into stifling Nader than in building a coalition with his campaign, letting him participate in the election, uniting a progressive front as he would like.

Our democracy is, sadly, not as open as you claim.  The rules for ballot access and debate access are set in collusion between the two main parties.  It is a major uphill ballot to inject a third party into this.  That is the real issue to me.

      We should change our democracy.

But I don't think destroying our democracy is the way to accomplish that, as Nader proposes.

Nice guy or not, if we're at war and I get to choose the guy in the foxhole next to me, I'll pick Kerry. At least I know he's gonna watch my back.

Wow, there's so much fear out there.

        Nader proposes no such thing.
Quite sane, all of it, actually.  Let's build a progressive coalition.  Don't get mad, get creative.  He'd make one hell of an amazing ally.
        •  Ally? (none)
Why do you keep throwing out this boogey man that Nader is an ally?

The man is backed by Republicans, he's always been this way.

Carter tried to appease the guy back in the 70's and had a number of Nader people on his staff.  What was Nader's response?  Carter doesn't do enough, he's no better than Reagan.

This is a man who would no sooner stab you in the back than support your cause.
