    Take SDI.  A lot of research was done in the 70’s showing that an ABM treaty was in our best interest and that at best you can only do point defense against missiles (defense collocated with target).  Yet, Ronny Raygun got it started and politics sustained it.

    Take the Apery.  There was no military requirement for this hybred helicopter-plane.  Did that stop politicians from pressing for it?

    I think this dragon skin thing is just another example.  Forget what is needed.  They have something that excels at one thing and therefore is the best.  Bull shit!

    Not to say that procurement is perfect, but it is a hell of lot better than allowing politicians to decide.  They can get away with excepting money for their decisions.  It is much harder for civil servants and military personal to do the same thing.

      applicable with the decision for the Stryker.  Newt baby was doing everything he could do to include false statements regarding the current technology to keep the antiquated Bradley because, Martin Marrietta was in his district.
