    First, the Army and particularly the Marines have to be prepared to deploy from anywhere to anywhere.  There is nothing that says a unit can't be deployed from Iraq to the mountains of Afghanistan, where cold would be an issue.

    But perhaps more importantly, there is nothing that says that body armor won't be transported in the unpressurized cargo hold of transport aircraft.  Where the temperature can go down to 50 deg.F for 12 hours or more.  Which is actually worse because it could go hot soak cold soak - hot soak in a short period of time.

    This is the kinds of stuff that Army engineers have to take into account that doesn't show up on TV.
