  •  This diary is inflamatory. The article does not (3+ / 0-)

state that "only the Christian Bible" is allowed to stay. It actually says that books of all religions that are deemed to be exremist have been removed.

Of course, the irony here is that many of us oppose fatih based prison programs that use religious texts to indoctrinate inmates.

If you had a book written by some crazy guy it wouldn't have been in the prison to begin with. What they removed seemed to be the teaching materials for the Musilim religion. You know they didn't take out the bible.

      •  They apparently didn't remove the Qu'ran, either (3+ / 0-)

They also removed teaching materials for ALL of the major religions, including Christianity.  The diarist did some VERY selective quoting.  Among the many things he omitted was the following:

"The set of books that have been taken out have been ones that we used to minister to new converts when they come in here," inmate John Okon, speaking on behalf of the prison's Christian population, told a judge last week.

Okon said it was unfortunate because "I have really seen religion turn around the life of some of these men, especially in the Christian community."

Of course, that doesn't fit the diarist's worldview that this is all part of some "Christianist Fascist" conspiracy, so it got left out and actually misrepresented.

that ONLY Islamic books were removed. Nor does it say that the Koran was removed.

While I've never been an inmate, I'm going to guess that there are plenty of crazy people in already prisons, a few of whom are the jailers.
