Here in Canada we have universal health care for all but we can also buy Blue Cross for the extras. If we so desire. Like eye test, eye glasses, hearing tests, hearing aids, prescriptions, private hospital rooms and so on. We can buy it through our employer if they offer it or privately if not. And the elderly can buy for a very small fee the Blue Cross supplemental. However, not many elderly really need it because here in my province, once you are 65 years old most of the extras are free anyway. Like prescriptions are totally free after 65, when the income is lower and the need for medicines are higher.
Now even here in my province for the past 3 years ambulance rides to the hospital are totally free.
We may not have a perfect system but I would not trade it for the US system at all. And I know a little about the system since I did work as a nurse in Florida for several years in the 90's.
No thanks, I'll take the Canadian system any day!
