The name I've been using for the "corpse of value" is "pirate treasure". Back before the invasion, neocons were talking about how Iraq's wealth would be an advantage in building a democracy there. And it would have been, if it were the kind of wealth Goto Dengo prefers: wealth in people's brains.

But oil is pirate treasure. It has no natural owner, and could just as easily be mine as yours. It's something to fight over, not something to build a society with.

    •  Thanks, Pericles, for a useful metaphor. (0+ / 0-)

I'm going to start thinking in terms of "pirate treasure," too.
