  •  Why the Pro-Life crowd is full of shit. (6+ / 0-)

There is a simple test that has never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever failed me when discussing abortion with people.

With this simple test, you can make the pro-life person you are speaking with crumble under their own illogic.

    This test is simple.

This test is easy to administer.

    This test can be fun.

And it goes a little something like this:

YOU:...doesn't get impeached, he'll still be worse than Buchanan, by a mile.  That's why I voted for Kerry.
THEM:  Well, I could never vote for a Democrat.  I'm pro-life.
    YOU:  Oh, really?  Why?
THEM:  Because I believe abortion is murder.
    YOU:  You do?
    THEM:  Yes.
    YOU:  No you don't.
    THEM:  Uh, yeah.  I do.
YOU:  Okay, let me ask you a question.  If you knew that there was a guy weilding a knife or a gun or something, and he was at an elementary school a block away killing children one by one, you'd run down there and do everything in your power to try and stop him, right?
    THEM:  Of course.
    YOU:  Why?
THEM:  Because life is precious.  Killing is wrong.
YOU:  So why aren't you at an abortion clinic right now, today--everyday--doing everything in your power to try and stop the same thing from happening.

    Answer A

THEM:  Well, it's not the same thing.
YOU:  It isn't?  Huh.  Why not?
THEM:  Because they are children, and the fetus is just, uh, you know it's not the same as a child.  I mean, uh...Damn.
    YOU:  YOU LOOOOOOOSE!

    Answer B:

THEM:  Because abortion is legal and killing children is not, but I think they are both bad.
    YOU:  Equally bad?
    THEM:  Yes.
YOU:  Then how could you let the murder of children happen, even if it was legal?  I mean, killing school children and killing fetuses is the same thing, right?
THEM:  Well, it's not the same thing.
YOU:  It isn't?  Huh.  Why not?
THEM:  Because they are children, and the fetus is just, uh, you know it's not the same as a child.  I mean, uh...Damn.
    YOU:  YOU LOOOOOOOSE!

    Answer C

THEM:  Why am I not down there at an abortion clinic trying to do everything to stop them from happening?  Uh, because I guess I'm really just a personality bereft automaton who, for whatever reason, maybe upbringing, or some defect, have to believe that everything that my party/church says is true, and they say it's bad, so I think it's bad, because thinking what people tell me to think is a lot easier than actually thinking about thinking about it.
YOU:  (Pause)  I respect your candor.

      Answer D

We mere humans have no right to determine when a life ends, whether it be murder, abortion or capital punishment.  By the way, the bus to the "Out of Iraq" rally leaves at 4:00, not 5:00.

      Answer E

We want to end abortion, and political violence on our part is counterproductive.  Most Americans instinctively oppose the side of the debate which resorts to violence -- violence on our part means abortions forever.
