    A lot of older life forms like insects and amphibians lack our immune system with all its glands, hormones, and antibody genes that respond to antigens we are exposed to ("adaptive immunity"). They rely more on proteins that respond to foreign substances without ever being exposed to them before ("innate immunity"). Proteins for innate immunity include cecropins (insects) and magainins (amphibians).
