  •  We disagree. The PATRIOT Act is typical of the (0+ / 0-)

"necessary" updates that have happened since 2002.  Of course, Leahy voted for it so Republicans couldn't say bad things about how uncooperative he is.  Was the result a White House that follows the law, or a weakened Congress?  They even voted against oversight from Congress on replacing US Attorneys, and look where it's got us!  It's like as long as the Senators act surprised by the laws they enact, they're doing their jobs.

I support undoing the past 6 years of damage, while Leahy's just trying not to go back 30 years.  Excuse me for being a little disappointed.

Leahy voted for the Patriot Act and so did every other senator, save one.  If you are going to now trash Leahy for voting for the Patriot Act then you better start trashing all the other Democratic senators except for Russ Feingold.

The provision in the Patriot Act allowing US Atty to be appointed by the Executive without Senate confirmation was slipped in at the last minutes.  When it was exposed every senator claimed they did not know it was in the legislation.  I guess they're all lying per you.

And by the way ... that provision has since been taken out of the Patriot Act by the Democratic Congress.

You really are a sounding more and more like a Purity Commissar the more you post on this.

      •  Are appeasement and "trashing" the only options? (0+ / 0-)

Do I have your permission to be disappointed in all the Senators who insist they didn't know what was in the bill they passed?

Before 2008, let's introduce a mandatory quiz show where Congresscritters get replaced whenever they don't know what's in a bill they passed.  It'll be hilarious, we'll get a new Congress that isn't already proven negligent, and the huge TV ad revenue can go to public campaign financing.
