  •  True, but (0+ / 0-)

. . . the Ken Starr extravaganza with the endless lines  of Busby-like dancing girls that constitute our punditocracy, and the solemn chorus of Republican politicians adding a constant moan of deeply offended moral outrage had been going on for a while.

If the Democrats were going to greatly benefit from people's disgust with the spectacle (and they were disgusted long before the actual impeachment itself) or if Republicans were going to be greatly hurt by it, I think it would have showed up in the '98 midterm results.

The only thing Republicans do well is take our tax dollars and transfer them to the rich, instead of providing the services we thought we were paying for.

"The impeachment of Clinton cost Republicans the midterm elections."

Perhaps it would be more correct to say investigations may have cost the Republicans the midterm election. But that doesn't quite work if one wants to argue impeachment costs elections.

      Not the same thing.

It's a frequent talking point that gets thrown around and I think people have heard it repeated so many times they assume it is true.

Let your conscience be your guide.
