    political lefties should not use the right's manipulative strategies.  

    We can articulate our positions on issues in a way that expresses our concern (based on compassion and empathy).  

    We can express outrage when we have been deceived (like the build-up to invading Iraq).

    We can express frustration when our elected officials do not promote progressive goals.

    None of this can be done effectively without knowing the facts and understanding how things work.  Reason works best when motivated by emotions.  They work together.
