Sears spun Allstate out in 1993. Fourteen years ago.and today it trades as a separate company under the ticker symbol ALL.

Allstate's History...it's still not good because now they are connected to Home Depot. Aplogies for the error.

      1. Sears, Roebuck and Co. found Allstate Insurance Company to offer auto insurance by direct mail and through the Sears catalog. Lessing J. Rosenwald is chairman. Takes in $118,000 in premiums on 4,217 policies.
      1. Allstate, Dean Witter, and Coldwell Banker join together to introduce the Sears Financial Network. Donald F. Craib, Jr. becomes chairman. Reorganizes its corporate structure, calling for the elimination of zone offices. Introduces Universal Life policy, a flexible life insurance plan.
      1. Becomes a 100% publicly owned company when Sears spins off its 80.3% ownership for $9 billion. Launches Deerbrook Insurance Co. Sells 70% of PMI's common stock in an initial public offering, garnering $93 million in the transaction.

2000 May: Allstate and Home Depot enter into an alliance whereby Allstate will refer policyholders with property damage to the building supply retailer; Allstate expects to save money in claims costs due to Home Depot's reasonable prices.
