  •  Mark Pera is running against Lipinski (16+ / 0-)

and he could use both money and volunteers.  And some people willing to take volunteer leadership roles, like coffee chair, visibility coordinator, etc.  Check him out at:

The tough part about this race is that we don't have run-off voting, so it is all too easy for the Chicago Machine to put up a spoiler candidate (as they did two years ago) to split the anti-Lipinski vote, meaning Lipinski doesn't even need a majority to win.  For example, the vote could be 44%Lipinski, 43%Pera and 13%Spoiler, and Lipinski would win.

So it is more difficult than it might appear by looking at the numbers in the diary, but not impossible! :-)

I'M FROM THE CHICAGO AREA AND AGREE WITH YOUR COMMENTS.  WHAT DID THE LADY SENATOR FROM CALIF GAIN BY VOTING WITH BUSH?  I'M IN  REP. M BEAN'S AREA (LAKE COUNTY ILLINOIS) WHICH IS STRONGLY REPUBLICAN AND CAN SEE WHY SHE VOTED THE WAY SHE DID THOUGH I STRONGLY DISAGREE.

    •  I just sent Pera $ too. (7+ / 0-)

starting to feel a tiny bit better...Lipinski, if Pera's web site is to be believed sounds like he comes from the wingnut wing of the democratic party.

Pera states he is for withdrawal from Iraq, pro-choice, for stem cell research and for dealing with global warming.

According to Pera's web site, Lipinski has the following stands:

      1. War in Iraq

Lipinski voted for a resolution opposing a timetable for withdrawal in Iraq.

      1. Choice for Women

Lipinski said before entering Congress, "I believe that life begins at conception." He believes abortion should be allowed only when a pregnancy threatens a mother's life -- no rape or incest exception.

In Congress Lipinski voted against a motion that barred fathers who have committed rape or incest against a minor, from being able to sue the doctor who performed the abortion.

      1. Stem Cell Research

Lipinski was one of only fourteen Democrats who voted against allowing the use of federal funds in research on embryonic stem cell lines derived from surplus embryos at in-vitro fertilization clinics, but only if donors gave their consent and were not paid for the embryos.

      1. Energy and the Environment

Lipinski voted for legislation that overhauled the nation's energy policy and provided for approximately $8 billion in energy-related tax incentives. It also authorized the Interior Department to hold a lease sale for oil and gas exploration, development, and production in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in Alaska, on a total of about 1.6 million acres.

It's the local paper -- they endorsed Lipinski's opponent last time out, and have printed my anti-Lipinski letters. I would do it now, but am going on vacation tomorrow and won't be around for the confirmatory phone call (may do it anyway, just to plant the seed in the editors' minds). If you live in Chicago, especially if you live in Il-03, I'd urge you write one too.
