    is the mood of the electorate now.  If the representative can't change with his/her constituency, then it is time to change representatives.

      Incumbents are notoriously hard to push out, and the difference in almost all American elections is a couple percent--the incumbent factor.

      At the very least, a primary challenge that causes a "Blue Dog" to consider his/her position is worth the donation. At the Congressional level, it's normally not too expensive--and it's great education for netroots activists who might later try other adventures in politics.
