  •  When even people in Congress ... (6+ / 0-)

...admit that they are not familiar with all that's in this bill, when the Administration continues to violate the law that does exist, then it is a no-brainer to suggest that it is capitulation to legalize the illegal under a deadline that hasn't been there since the illegal program came to light 19 months ago. Yes, organizing against the next rewrite is important, but, even though you would never give vent to anger or write a screed, some of us aren't so perfect.

    •  You Know I have heard that (0+ / 0-)

'no one in congress' meme tossed around here a few times but I just read that all day in the Senate there were meetings discussing the specifics of the bill with all the members and that everyone understood what was in it.

Here is Greenwald on it yesterday in an interview with Chris Dodd at YK:

GG: Can you describe what you think it is that motivated 16 of your colleagues in the Democratic caucus to vote in favor of this bill?

CD: No, I really can't . . . We had caucuses during the day, so everyone knew what was there. You had a vote at 10:00 at night, people say I didn't know what was there, then normally I can understand, but we had a caucus during the day. There was a lot of conversation about it.

So you know as I have complained about before memes are fabricated on the blogs and everyone just blindly picks them up and repeats them as they are fact. It really makes those who do this look silly and after a while you start to question everything they say especially when you read the same thing by posters here who you know don't operate on facts and then you also see it all over the internet - with not one citation of proof.

As for your 'capitulation' comment there is another catch-all word that means nothing. No one who said the Dems capitulated on Iraq funding ever gave a reasonable argument as to what they should have done without hanging the troops out to dry. No one! It's just another word in the Dem Bash Dictionary.

to legalize the illegal under a deadline that hasn't been there since the illegal program came to light 19 months ago.

Well surprise! Bush laid another last minute land mine. The Dems could hardly afford to go into August with this hanging over their heads. August is supposed to be about Job#1 which is the Repubs getting beat up over Iraq - not the Dems getting beat up over FISA. And then upon return in September the issue would not be Iraq as is planned - it would be about passing FISA and facing Bush vetoes. And Bush would have gladly forced Iraq off the table to deal with FISA for months on end. Now that would have been a winner wouldn't it? Do you guys ever think past your next move?

Instead the Dems bought time and kicked that can down the road with compromises by both congressional Repubs and Bush himself. Not a bad way to remove a noose from you neck.

even though you would never give vent to anger or write a screed, some of us aren't so perfect.

Hey when I screed it isn't about issues that require a great deal of detail as in this case. This is a word by word issue literally. When I talk about Iraq or Fox or whatever else it is not a critical word by word deal as is a bill. You being a journalist I should not have to explain that to you. There are certain types of things that screeds lend themselves to and then there are things that require a great deal of thought and care and detail in dealing with.

You know what you need to do.
