  •  Tigana, there's no purpose in answering you (0+ / 0-)

You engage in non-sequetors and your answers are all over the place (literally, not even in response to the proper reply button).

You brought up e-Bay, were shown to be wrong, and are not acknowledging it (not the first time you exhibit this behavior).

it's fine to disagree, and it's fine to debate, and it's fine to seek answers, but that's far from what you're doing. You have your own agenda, and goodness knows what it is, but it isn't science and it isn't interest in facts. You seem to be desperately throwing out whatever you can to see what sticks.

    Enjoy.

    •  Answer simple questions and challenges? (0+ / 0-)

You, DemfromCT, presented the Bird Flu initiative to DK. If it is not a joke, you should be able to answer simple questions and challenges to  it.

When presentations work less in the factual than in the affective domain, they may play on people's unrealistic fears. This is dishonest and should not be encouraged. Some here and at YK may not have background in epidemiology, or be able assess brief presentations objectively.

You do not appear to utilize the best scholarly sources or scientific methods for this intitiative, and when challenged or questioned are unable to discuss without resorting to personal remarks and evasive action.

Florence Nightingale, who was not only a superb nurse but an epidemiologist, would probably advise those involved in the Bird Flu initiative to apply themselves where they can make a real difference.

      •  I think not (0+ / 0-)

It is tiresome to throw credentials around, but when  posters demand it, there is little choice.

I have been invited to present at CDC, HHS, CIDRAP and at peer reviewed science conferences. Moreover, my co-presenter actually is an epidemiologist and a member of the National Academy of Sciences. Also, Flu Wiki has been cited as a reliable source and community communications model in Science, Nature, the Harvard Business Review,  the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center’s Biosecurity and Bioterrorism  journal, the American Academy For the Advancement of Science  and  the library sciences journal Medical Reference Services Quarterly.

Your complaint is without merit, and your accusations undocumented. In terms of judging facts and judging whether I utilize the best scholarly sources or scientific methods as you claim, you've not shown evidence that you're qualified to make that judgment. Saying things doesn't make them so. In your case especially, documentation is essential.

If you want to explore more scholarly sources, feel free. And you might wish to stop saying ludicrous things like bird flu doesn't exist. Next time, try backing up your comments with some data if you want to earn any respect. You certainly have lost any you had.

        •  You are either unwilling or unable to answer (0+ / 0-)

You know what I think of the CDC. I have no interest in your credentials, and am not interested in name droppers. I offered documentation about your work and asked you simple questions that you are either unwilling or unable to answer, and which you consistently met with a lack of compassion. I don't care what you say the government claims. From T4 to Tuskeegee to Foot and Mouth, governments have lied.

There is no bird flu epidemic, and I consider it worse than foolish - unholy -  to frighten people with this specter rather than help real people who need help now, Doctor.

          •  so we are clear (0+ / 0-)

(and there are other readers besides yourself), when I list news sources, your answer is "You do not appear to utilize the best scholarly sources or scientific methods for this intitiative". When I list citations, you answer "I have no interest in your credentials, and am not interested in name droppers."

What is crystal clear is that you have no interest in approaching this topic with an open mind and no interest in data and information. When you are inarguably shown to be wrong, you change the subject and go off on a tangent about something unrelated, and use any suggestion to get back on topic as 'evidence' of some sort to justify your own rudeness and intransience.

I feel sorry for you, but it does not change the primary data and the best scholarly sources (the single best paper to read is this, and my series of summary posts at HHS is here). As an example of how someone can approach this topic with an open mind, see "Bird flu? Meh." Meh.

And just so other readers know, this has been a discussion over multiple diaries. Tigana has been treated both fairly and with respect. It clearly makes no difference.

            •  Beneath usual dK standards (0+ / 0-)

Over multiple diaries, I have challenged the validity of sensationalistic, name-dropping claims about an alleged bird flu plague.

Rather than offering reponses that convince through scientific facts and scholarly references, the diarist attempted to dismiss my queries and those of others in a patronizing way. He even diagnosed one dK bird flu sceptic with oppositional defiant disorder. When attempts to misdirect failed, the diarist claimed that he was being insulted, though he had not - the effort had - , and then resorted to ad hominem attacks. This seems far beneath usual Daily Kos standards. I will not bore the reader by linking to these tiresome and dishonorable ruses, but they are present and accessible in the Daily Kos archives.

The credentials of anyone capable of writing in such bad faith scarcely matter. That the diarist has expressed no sympathy for victims of government blunders leading to disasters, but proudly claims that he himself has been associated with a corrupt and dishonest government agency, seal the matter for me.

              •  well, Tigana and I agree (0+ / 0-)

on one thing... Despite her multiple mischaracterizations, the record here and elsewhere is open for inspection. ;-)

In addition, i provide links to data.
