Please let me know what concrete action that the Dem's have taken to slow down the Bush juggernaut?  Lots of pathetic bleating about human rights and following the constitution.  When it comes time to vote thay give the Junta exactly what they want.

    •  That sounds like collective punishment (0+ / 0-)

How has Waxman caved to Bush in any way? He has been doing his job, i.e. investigating the administration.

      •  Investigating to death (0+ / 0-)

Waxman will keep on "investigating" and the White House will keep on lying and hiding the truth.  Henry and his crew will hold keep on trying to look good while playing nice.  He should take a lesson from the Newtster on how to get down and dirty.  With out a stick, the carrot is useless.  Waxman needs to grow a nut and start talking impeachment.

Impeachment is Conyers's job, so direct your disappointment at him. Waxman has no discretion on that issue until that comes to the floor of the House. For now, he is doing his job, save some mistakes of judgment such as this one.

          •  Leadership (0+ / 0-)

True leadership means taking action to further ones objective.  Waiting for Conyers or Pelosi to step up is not leadership.  Waxman has always been about polishing his liberal bonafides for the folks back home while taking little real action in Washington. Say what you like about Newtie he had leadership, and by virtue of his leadership shaped America in his own twisted image.  Are there any "liberals" in Congress as dedicated to their ideas?

Too scared, or too much a part of the plan to actually take any action?  Hoping these criminals will give back the reigns of power?

Pretty pathetic so far; that war vote; Abu Gonzo; FISA; rollbacks of civil liberties,  Simply pathetic.

        •  Okay (0+ / 0-)

Now tell me what Waxman had to do with any of the debacles you mentioned.

          •  It was more to the Dems in general, but to (1+ / 0-)

Waxman, this diary, and his tepid, indifferent response to Sibel Edmonds explosive information.  They are, I suspect, scared shitless of what will happen in they push Bu$hitCo too far.  Leaders they ain't!

            •  Tepidness (0+ / 0-)

might not be how you define it here. Responsible committee chairmen and investigators typically do not tip their hand early without undertaking a full check of the events first. So his initially cautious response to the case provides no reason for pessimism.

              •  Yeah, well, these times demand a FAST response, (0+ / 0-)

so I really hope Henry isn't trying to cross every "t" and dot every "i" or, it isn't necessary.  Or, even worse, "waiting out the clock" in the hope that these criminals will go gently into that good night.  I really do not see them doing that.  Do your?!

Now I can see Henry playing coy so as to not tip his had, but by playing stupid on this, and on Sibel Edmonds, while Congress keeps on giving Bu$hitCo more than it's asked for on each occasion, well, I just think something is really wrong here.

It is at the point to shit, and impeach the whole bunch, or get of the pot while we are all flushed down the crapper.  I am stsrting to thin it may be too late, actually.  Only a real economic meltdown and true hardship may allow this country to be saved, but I do not see any Roosevelt on the horizon.  Edwards is the closest, and I am not sure he is at that point, yet.

If I sound cynical, well, the last 6 years of Bu$hitCo and the criminal repubglicans and the "opposition" party "stratagems" have not exactly inspired confidence.  The only reason the Dems even won in 2006 are 1) progressive netroots, 2) Dean at the DNC and 3) general disgust with the repuglicans.  NOT because they inspired and led with some great platform planks or strategies.

While I'm happy to see #1 continue to grow, it is not enough;  #2 was resisted by the party leaders in Congress, especially when he wouldn't share $$$ for their loosing triangulating strategies; #3 is a lucky break that may be muted by 2008.  The Dems need to really be the opposition party, soon, or 2008 may well be a bloodbath with another terror attack or war with Iran and decades of fascist Repuglican rule.

So Henry, start fucking doing something already, because you are failing.  The Constitutional crises is upon us now, and has been for some time already.

                •  Too cynical (0+ / 0-)

First, there is nothing wrong with caution when pursuing an investigation, as the full weight of evidence is needed to counter and crush the administration's propaganda machine. Also, the only real tool that brings accountability for the administration's crimes is impeachment, and that is strictly the property of Conyers (Judiciary Committee chairman), not Waxman. Then even if we don't impeach (though then we will miss a great opportunity to set a precedent regarding the consequences of presidential criminality), Bush's term is coming to a close, and a Democratic president is heavily favored to win the next election. And this election, your point #3 holds to an even greater extent than 2006. The public is thoroughly disgusted with the Republicans' lockstep support of the war and their obstructionism of every important domestic agenda, so much so that even given Congress's low approval ratings, Democrats are solidly beating Republicans in every generic poll, and every Democratic top tier candidate is beating every Republican top tier candidate in the presidential polls.

So I would not declare Waxman's failure or our impending doom so prematurely.

                  •  Let us hope then, because I am sure that (0+ / 0-)

these criminal traitors will not go gently into that good night!
