    It's much easier to become fluent in a second language if you start in elementary school, as is done in Europe.  Someone who starts learning a second language before the age of ten or so will find it much easier pick up additional languages throughout their lifetime.  I'm hoping that the growing Spanish bilingualism in the US will help with this.  Kids will pick up bits and pieces of Spanish just from hearing it even if it's not taught in schools.
