  •  The Republican Obsession (9+ / 0-)

More and more, we see just how seriously Repubilcans take National Security.

Between O'Reilly, Gibson, Drudge, and their supporters and enablers, we see how much they value keeping America safe.

Which is to say, they don't.  All these fantasies of benig attacked again and how it'd be a GOOD thing for us is just insane to a freakish degree.  And somehow, it's still the side that gets painted as 'serious', whereas we DFHs, who actually kind of care about keeping both body and liberty safe, are seen as...well, DFHs.

God help me find some sanity, because I don't know whether I've gone insane or America has.

They really, really liked the immediate post-9/11 narrative: bad people want to attack you! It's a dangerous world out there! Trust the big daddy Republicans to keep you safe! Dissent is treason! Sit down, shut up, wave your flag, and go shopping! Questions are treason! Rally behind the (Republican) president even if you disagree with him! Now is not the time to ask questions!

Etc. It was pretty much their perfect world. Everybody was militaristic and jingoistic and paranoid, and so traumatized that they would actually talk about compromising on the Bill of Rights in the name of "protection."

Of course, what they don't get is that in 2005 we were attacked again -- by nature, this time -- and the pathetic federal response to Hurricane Katrina demonstrated to people that, no, the Republicans have no actual interest in keeping you safe.

New narrative: it's a dangerous world out there and Bush and the Republicans don't have a clue how to  handle it.
