When it came to Obama's remarks about Pakistan. So what if Musharaff didn't like it? He's one of our worst allies ever. As for the White House criticizing his statement, if Bush had done his job, then Obama would never have had cause to say it.

snout, Hannibal, esquimaux call Bush on the carpet for his failure to destroy Bin Laden/Al Qaeda when had the chance.  Obama was also right to expose the Bush Doctrine's tenet of "no safe havens for terrorists" for the sham it is.

I also agree that the American president should be prepared to use force to crush Al Qaeda in Pakistan.  My real question is whether or not Obama might have been better served by making statements such as:

      • "Al Qaeda will not be allowed to maintain its safe haven in Pakistan" OR
      • "The United States will provide Pervez Musharraf with whatever assistance - including military - he might require in order to dismantle the Al Qaeda santuary in Pakistan."

Obama could then have played coy about whether or he intended to use military force.  He could then play the "all options must be on  the table" game.
