    When did he intervene with his friends, the Reagans, to talk about how this disease was ravaging our community? I don't recall Merv Griffin ever saying that Reagan's silence was harmful, do you?

    As lots of people have said, 'it's his business.' Indeed, Griffin was a businessman—and that's his epitaph, too.

    In my diary on this yesterday, I point out the generational difference in gay attitudes to Merv Griffin's lifestyle. He did live a gay life, but he is a kind of gay antihero to a lot of us.
