    I lived in St. Paul (Highland Park) from 1991-2000 before moving to the Philadelphia area because of a family medical issue (Father-in-law with a long-term, but terminal cancer).  It was a great place to live, but even then you could start to feel the push from the forces of conservatism and greed.  Alan Quist was endorsed by the No-Longer-Independant-Republican party over a VERY popular sitting governor, Arne Carlson.  Fortunately, Arne cleaned his clock in the primary.

    I also remember fondly the anti-apartheid protests led by Paul Wellstone and Barry Casper on the campus of my alma mater (Carleton College) -- they made a difference.

    Flushed down the tiolet.

    Crap.

    But now it is time to rebuild.
