The gutter, and football, have nothing to do with behavior.

The reason for Vick's bad behavior is because bad behavior is often rewarded with money. If there were no money in dog fighting, there would be no 500 million dollar dog fighting industry.

Maybe we should focus on how money promotes bad behavior, and move the money into places which promote good behavior. If people can only get rich doing bad stuff, then people will do that. Michael Vick has no excuse, he was a professional athelete, and had millions.

We can't say the same for some of his friends who did not have anything to lose by dogfighting, and consider the fact that society prefers to reward bad behavior and this would explain why people adopt bad behavior. Bad behavior is just too profitable, and good behavior is not profitable enough.

...on such small stakes compared to his football earnings?

I can understand wanting to gamble, but there are dozens, hundreds of casinos who would treat Vick like a king to get his action - why bet $5K or $10K in secluded barns illegally when you can bet much more than that in lavish casinos with managers fawning all over you to get your action?

9-11 changed everything? Well, Katrina changed it back.
