Business-wise, you take the best offer available.  Morally, doing business with Rupert Murdoch is questionable.  I never said Edwards didn't give enough to charity; I've criticized him for doing business with Murdoch.

being a musician, I've thought about this, if you sell out to a major label or do a car commercial, and you make good money off it and give lots to charity, is it still a bad thing to do? Edwards did shop the book elsewhere, and it looks like Harper Collins gave them a good deal. He ended up taking $200,000 of Harper Collins money and gave it to charity. I'm not sure the "moral" lines of this situation are as cut and dry as you make it out to be.
