      Why Bush of all people. He is the worst, most weasely of the lot. At least Caesar had military victories. Bush probably has trouble finding his butt with a flashlight. But I guess when folks start to believe, then that belief dies hard.

        Unthinking belief in him is easy to explain. They can't believe in his policies, his results, his methods, or in fact anything about him at all... But at the same time, they can't not (or at least, that's how they felt back when it was Gore vs. Bush) because he's a Republican and Republicans Good, Democrats Bad. So they believed in the one thing they could believe in: Bush the man. "He's a good man", they say. Of course: he wasn't and isn't, but he could fake it for a while.

        At least, that's the theory i came up with right off the top of my head after reading your comment.
