  •  without reflection I would go insane (8+ / 0-)

although I can assure you that my students are pretty sure I am crazy  :-)  of course dressing up in costume, making bad puns, being willing to turn parts of a government class into Humanities 101 when we explore something that is not part of our curriculum but which I think they should know -  it at least keeps them paying attention.

Those who can, do. Those who can do more, TEACH! If impeachment is off the table, so is democracy

    •  All I remember of my Govt teacher (4+ / 0-)

He was a bully. He picked on kids - like me who were too tall and heavy, or who were too small and skinny. We just began integration, too.  That was interesting.

He made us memorize. And memorize, and memorize.

I really only remember him for being a bully.

I'll bet your students will have much warmer memories of you, sir.

To call the Commander in Chief detached from reality would be an insult to paranoid schizophrenics everywhere. --billmon

      •  some won't - hopefully most will (0+ / 0-)

there are some who are used to sliding by by carm, because they are athletes, or because their parents or administrators could intimidate teachers.  Doesn't work with me, and for some they refuse to rise to the challenge.  Can't help that.   For others, they just don't like the subject or stylistically I am not the right teacher for them.  But in general I think they come out with a positive experience.  At least they still talk to me after I am no longer their teachr  :-)
