  •  The question, better stated (9+ / 0-)

    ...would be:

Which of the candidates for president has the most and deepest experience working with real people in the face of tragedy and crisis?

Obama's experience as a community organizer in Chicago at the time that the steel mills were laying off tens of thousands was not something he did for a day, or a week, or an extended vacation: It was his every breathing moment in the years when he cut his teeth.

This is why I have to laugh at the declarations about the supposed "inexperience" of Obama: In terms of the kind of experience we so desperately need a president to have - the real life experience outside of academia, politics, money-making, and government - the guy beats all his rivals put together in total hours spent doing the heavy lifting of community organizing.

That kind of experience is transferable to any geography, to any state, and to every crisis that effects real people. It's not something that can be learned in school or in government offices.

It's the kind of experience that causes someone, for example, to look at the conventional wisdom-calcified view of the Cuban-American question in Florida and ask: but what about their hardships caused by the embargo on their visiting and sending money to their family members in Cuba? It's the difference between blowing in the wind and looking below to see the human consequences of policy.

Nobody has died as a result of this comment.
